Question Windows Server

You should be able to run server 2022 standard maybe 2025, i have a Dell r320 with a E5-2470 v2 running 2022 datacenter.

Just note to do it correctly you have to license the server by core, and since you are running dual 18 core (36 cores) in total you would have to buy multiple licenses.

You can on the other hand install the sever OS without a key and get 180 days trial.

What do you want this "server" to do for you?

Windows 11 Pro for Workstations is really just the Pro version with a couple features for workstation class CPUs and memory. It works exactly like other Win 11 versions for all practical purposes. I am using it right now, in fact.

I want to use it as a media server and also run solidworks on it.

One login only applies for RDP (Remote Desktop Protocol) session.

You can create as many users as you want on one machine. Login locally with different accounts with different sessions and switch between them. You can login remotely with only one user, however.

Windows client OS (XP to W11) should be up to 10 connections for network sharing (Windows login) if past rules still apply (since XP)

http video streams shouldn't have any limitation in it's tech since it has nothing to do with Windows login. But you have to check Plex license term.

You don't need a server. Windows 11 Pro is fine. You also don't need the Workstation version.

If the "solidworks" requirement doesn't require a desktop, then that would work.

No, my point is that if there is no requirement for simultaneous solidworks users. One at a time would work with a desktop OS.

That I have no idea. But my instinct tell me it would not work for multiple users at the same time for SoildWorks. That definitely require a server/workstation and powerful server/workstation grade GPU.

Unless you need realtime video endcoing/decoding, media server requirement is not intensive at all.

Solidworks being a 3D modeling software, definitely need a powerful GPU, however.

You definitely can make both running at the same time with OP's "new" equipment if he also have or will acquire a GPU on the list.

Seems only HP/Dell workstations are certified. But that doesn't mean SolidWorks won't work on other machines. It's just no tested.
